Today,
we went to the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour at Leavesden Studios,
outside of London. We managed to find all the correct trains and buses at the
proper times (we were actually nearly an hour early for our scheduled tour)
(“but really, we were only functionally half and hour early because we had to
stand in line for things. It’s important to mention. And if you want to be
British, you have to say that we had to queue for things.” –Miel).

I
made Miel try butterbeer even though she was skeptical, and she says it was
“actually, like, decent…don’t put that quote in” so there you have it. Overall
highlights were the Knight Bus, the concept drawings (and paintings…they did
like full-blown paintings for some concept artwork, which were amazing), the
white card models of sets, and the full model of Hogwarts at the end of the
tour. This model was detailed and realistic enough that they actually used it
as the Hogwarts shown in the movies, until the last movie, when they had to
blow up the castle with CGI.
We
made our train back to London, picked up our luggage, and made it onto the
Eurostar. It was incredibly exciting for Miel to hear people speak French, even
though she’s been making comments like “EVERYONE here is French!!!” and
“ANOTHER French family!!!” since we got to London. Miel also wants me to
clarify that from the Eurostar, we did actually make it to Paris. After some
trouble with the Metro (and some help from some nice French youth), we made it
to our hotel. Apparently, Gabriel García Márquez wrote El coronel no tiene quien le escriba (No One Writes to the Colonel)
in this hotel, which is exciting even though I haven’t read that particular
novel of his. Also, we would like to mention that our chair is now in the
closet so that we could fit both our suitcases on the floor without blocking doorways.
We’ll
start to explore Paris tomorrow. Off to… sleep in our hotel room so we can have
more adventures tomorrow worthy of sharing with our LOVELY READERS.
The butterbeer looks fizzy. How on earth did you get her to try it? You should have brought your capes and wands.
ReplyDeleteHave loads of fun explorando les attractions de Paris! (British-Spanish-French)
That was my first thought as well! I bet there's a story there..
DeleteI said I would try it! I couldn't NOT try it, and it was actually decent. Yay trilingualism. We've been doing a bit of that ourselves. Also, we have little room in our suitcases, and still less room in our bags that we carry with us during the day.
DeleteShe also had lemonade (which is really lemony soda in Europe) multiple times in London. She is pointing out that it was only twice, but she did order it again. This is not the first time I have witnessed Miel drinking fizzy lemonade...
DeleteShe would also have you know that despite this she will NOT be drinking any at RIVER.
The funny thing is that I dislike their fizzy lemonade. No worries. I'll get her to try regular root beer or something instead of lemonade. :)
DeleteYou should have made room for wands, then you could have accio-ed whatever else you needed...
I know that I don't like root beer, so, no, sorry. And if we could actually get wands to work, OF COURSE. We'd just have a Hermione bag, none of this awkward suitcase nonsense.
DeleteMy daughter Emma is now following your blog and begging me to take her to London. If you start to get random posts from Blake 5th graders you will now know why.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
H-W
That's excellent! We welcome all readers (though we possibly apologize for inspiring the begging).
DeleteAlso, HI EMMA!!! England is awesome, it would be a lovely place to visit!
DeleteToday's post update: no tickets. Now it is becoming somewhat amusing to see if they will actually arrive. However, grad party invitations are arriving. Amy is trying really hard, 4x, to comment but she can't get it. So, I don't know, email her instructions.

ReplyDeleteHey Gracie,
I must be super old because I tried writing on your blogspot and I couldn't figure out how to post things [:)]
Here's what I wanted to write...
Dear Gracie,
I'm so amazed and proud of the young woman you have become. 15 years ago when I was babysitting you, I just knew you were going to grow up to be an amazing person. Now you are on the trip of a lifetime--the trip of MY dreams!!
Enjoy every moment. The summer I spent in New Zealand changed my life forever and I still cherish the memories and friends that I made there.
I promise to read your blog every day [:)] I can't, however, promise to post on it. Hehehe...but I'll email!
Have fun, Kiddo. You've earned it!
Love, Amy

ReplyDeleteBasically.
DeleteI KNOW RIGHT!!!
DeleteThe studio tour looks amazing! We discussed putting capes in the suitcase but I thought it would push it over the weight limit & probably attract some unwanted attention from security. Glad to hear France let you in! Enjoy Paris!
ReplyDeleteThis is a learning process....but I'm liking it!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what butter beer is but I will say that now Grace is beginning to look like an Amm***an. Not sure if I can spell it outright on this blog....
Can't wait to read more and comment more. Have a super trip Grace and enjoy your special day tomorrow!
Haha, although I do look like one in the picture (we'll have to show it to PJ), I assure you it is non-alcoholic. And thank you, I sure hope to!!
